What is Oil Cleansing?

Oil cleansing is simply the process of cleansing your face with oil.

It may sound a bit silly to begin with but after remembering that oil dissolves oil, it starts to make some sense!

Oil cleansing works on the principle that the only way to combat the oil, makeup, and environmental toxins that face our skin, is with other, good oils.

While this cleansing method doesn’t work for everyone, many have tried it and swear by it. A huge benefit of oil cleansing is that it can work for all skin types – whether you have oily or dry skin.

The trick to seeing a magical improvement to the health and hydration of your skin (including less blemishes!) is simply in choosing the right oils for your skin type.

OIL CLEANSERS AT EVER NATURAL

Black Chicken Remedies’ oil cleanser is packed with 14 remedial oils including organic jojoba oil, camellia tea oil, almond oil, sunflower oil, sesame oil, and macadamia oil, as well as a bunch of calming and balancing essential oils – wow! This cleanser works to dissolve excess oil and target impurities without interfering with the natural balance of your skin. It really is one of the highest quality oil cleansers on the market.

Although not mentioned on the packaging, INIKA’s makeup remover oil is actually a combination of sunflower seed oil, jojoba seed oil, rosehip seed oil, and vitamin E – perfect for oil cleansing! This oil is great for helping with scarring, fine lines, and wrinkles, and is wonderfully gentle on the skin.

D.I.Y. OIL CLEANSERS

Although there are more fantastic oil cleansers becoming available, many people opt to create their own oil cleansers to combat problems specific to their skin. These D.I.Y. recipes will often include different ratios of organic oils such as argan oil and rosehip oil.

If you’re looking for certified organic argan oil to include in your oil cleansing routine, check out ECO Face’s range, as well as Acure’s Moroccan argan oil. ECO Face, Acure, and INIKA also sell quality rosehip oils for you to add to your cleansing collection.

WHICH OILS ARE RIGHT FOR MY SKIN?

For dry skin, search for ingredients with moisturising properties such as almond oil, jojoba oil, and macadamia oil.
For blemished skin, look for ingredients that are high in linoleic acid and that have anti-inflammatory properties, such as grapeseed oil, hemp seed oil, and argan oil.
For aging skin, look for oil cleansers that include ingredients such as sweet almond oil, argan oil, and rosehip oil, as these oils are packed with essential fatty acids.

HOW TO OIL CLEANSE

Step 1. Remove your makeup, either with cleansing water or wipes.

Step 2. Take a few drops of your oil (enough to massage into your whole face and neck) and massage into your skin until you feel that you’ve covered every section.

Step 3. Take a washcloth, such as Black Chicken Remedies’ Muslin Cloths, and soak under hot water for a few seconds. Squeeze excess water from the cloth and wait a second or two until the cloth is just warm enough to drape over your face.

Step 4. Place the warm cloth over your face and enjoy the steam (doesn’t it feel like a spa?!).

Step 5. Once the cloth is cool, gently wipe your skin until you feel that the oil is removed. Repeat from step 3 until you are satisfied.

Step 6. Gently pat your face dry and apply your favourite treatment and moisturiser.

You can also incorporate these steps with ‘double-cleansing’ to achieve the ultimate benefits of oil cleansing. This means that after wiping away the oils, you can use your traditional cleanser for a squeaky-clean feel!
